Eczema

Eczema

Eczema is actually a range of skin conditions including dryness and recurring skin rashes that are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, swelling, pruritus (itching) and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking, oozing or bleeding. Eczema starts as itchy skin, followed by a red itchy rash, and usually occurs on the face, elbows, hands, knees or feet. Repeated scratching of the irritated skin can lead to scarring. The exact cause of eczema is unknown, but it’s believed to be due to the body’s overactive response to an irritant. There is no cure for eczema, but you can treat the symptoms.

Using a therapeutic skin conditioner like Amerigel® Care Lotion with Oakin® will protect and moisturize the dry skin. The anti-inflammatory

The antipruritic (anti-itch) properties in Amerigel® Care Lotion with Oakin® will relieve the urge to scratch the skin that is already irritated and inflamed. Amerigel® Care Lotion with Oakin® exfoliates (removes) the crust and flakes. It can be applied as often as needed and feels so soothing when applied. Tips to Help Minimize Symptoms of Eczema

1.  Do not expose your skin to any potential irritants. Sensitive skin can become irritated by soaps, shampoos, skin cleansers, perfumes and detergents, to name a few. Look for signs of skin irritation whenever trying a new product that comes into contact with your skin.  Once you have identified the cause of the irritation, avoid skin contact with this substance in the future.
2.  Wear clothes that are not tight and are made from a soft fabric. Loose fitting clothes that are made from soft natural materials like cotton, silk, etc. slide on the skin and cause little or no skin irritation. Clothing made of materials that are rough to the touch can irritate the skin and should be avoided whenever possible, especially if they will be worn for long periods of time.
3.  Avoid the urge to scratch. Use a moisturizer like Amerigel® Care Lotion that contains an anti-itch (antipruritic) ingredient. It can be applied as needed to take away the urge to scratch. Applying a cold compress to the irritated area can sometimes help temporarily relieve the itching and inflammation. Scratching irritated skin can cause tiny openings in the skin that when left unprotected can result in an infection.

4.  Keep your skin moisturized. Eczema is a red itchy and dry “rash” in appearance. A high-end moisturizer such as Amerigel® Care Lotion helps the skin retain its normal moisture and provide moisture to dry skin since it is also an emollient. The best time to apply Amerigel® Care Lotion is right after bathing or showering.

5.  Be pro-active in cold weather. Winter often brings cold dry air which can dry out the skin more than any other time of the year. It is especially beneficial to moisturize with Amerigel® Care Lotion during the winter months to prevent premature cracking or excessive drying out of the skin. Amerigel® Care Lotion also helps keep skin moisturized in climates that are naturally dry or have very low humidity regardless of the season.

6.  Another Amerigel® product may be beneficial for Eczema that resembles more of a rash. For those areas of the skin that are simply red, irritated, inflamed and itchy, applying Amerigel® Barrier Lotion will invisibly shield and protect vulnerable skin. As a barrier lotion, it does not penetrate the outer layer of skin like Amerigel® Care Lotion but helps reduce the redness, stop the itching and soothe the skin. What works on one person may not work as well on another. It is a good idea to try several moisturizing skin lotions and skin protectants to find the ones that works best for you in managing the ecaema.

My 4 year old grandson has long term Eczema. I ordered the Care Lotion for him. After two applications, my grandson called to thank me.  He asked me if I knew what he called the lotion. When I replied “no,” he said it’s the  “Cream of Love.” I just wanted to share that reaction which touched my heart.
